Your clinician will ask you and your child many questions about asthma symptoms.  This helps us decide how severe the asthma is.  Knowing the severity level helps us decide which medicines to use to control the asthma symptoms.  The following chart will let you quickly estimate how severe your child’s asthma is.

Mild intermittent Less than 2 times a week Less than 2 times a month
Mild persistent More than 2 times a week, but not everyday 3-4 times a month
Moderate persistent Everyday More than 5 times a month
Severe persistent All the time Most of the time
